Why we don’t use real pictures

Because we value privacy

At the Algarve Summer Camp, privacy is our priority 🛡️. We choose not to use real photos of the children to ensure their safety and digital well-being in an online world 🌍. By using creative illustrations and silhouettes, we protect their identities while still capturing the magical spirit of our adventures in Portugal 🌊✨. This allows the kids to explore, grow, and be themselves without the pressure of a camera, keeping their summer memories private and secure 💫

📍 Ages and groups

  • At the Algarve Summer Camp, we embrace the „Ecology of Childhood“ by fostering a natural, mixed-age community where the traditional boundaries of age groups dissolve into organic social growth. We believe that children are biologically designed to learn from a diverse range of peers, and our camp operates as one vibrant tribe rather than a collection of isolated classes. 🌿

Our environment is intentionally designed to be „rich,“ providing a landscape of possibilities where children and teenagers interact freely. This setup allows for a „horizontal“ transfer of knowledge—a unique dynamic where younger children find natural role models in older ones, and teenagers develop empathy and leadership by sharing their skills with the little ones. 🤝

While our daily journey begins as one unified group, we honor the individual’s autonomy to choose their own path. As the day unfolds, the tribe naturally separates based on genuine interest, current energy levels, and self-chosen challenges rather than a birth certificate. A curious 6-year-old might feel the „enthusiasm,“ as Gerald Hüther calls it, to join the Coastal Pioneers in a photography workshop, while a teenager might find profound joy and relaxation in helping the Little Explorers engineer a massive sand fortress. 🏰

This self-directed separation is the cornerstone of true independence. By trusting that children intuitively know what they need for their own development—a core belief shared by André Stern—we remove the external pressure to „perform“ at a certain level. In this miniature society, leadership, care, and enthusiasm flourish naturally, creating an atmosphere where every participant feels seen, valued, and free to grow at their own rhythm. ✨
